Missions Ministry Policies and Procedures
STRATEGY
The Global Impact Missions Team (GIMT) of Mount Pleasant
Baptist Church (MPBC) will work to fulfill the Great
Commandment (Matt. 22:37-39) and the Great Commission (Matt.
28:19-20). Our strategy will be guided by Acts 1:8. We
choose to partner with the Southern Baptist Convention and
its entities (SBC), the Southern Baptist Conservatives of
Virginia (SBCV), Petersburg Baptist Association (PBA) and
other Great Commission Christians (GCC) of like faith and
practice. We seek to work through strategic partnerships, to
the extent possible, as we strive to complete the task. We
desire to provide training and resources for MPBC members,
other churches and individuals, so that the gospel may be
preached throughout the whole world (Matt. 24:14).
POLICY
The GIMT will consist of the Minister of Missions (MOM)
and Team Leaders (TL) of various ministry teams. Ministry
teams will include the Community Team, Commonwealth of VA
Team, Country Team, Continents Team, Global Impact
Celebration Team, Missionary Support Team, Epena Saija Team,
Partnership Teams and Short Term Project Teams. This list is
not all inclusive. We anticipate the make up of the GIMT
will constantly change as new teams are formed and other
teams complete their task and are dissolved.
In consultation with the MOM, each ministry team will
develop strategy for their area of responsibility. They will
seek opportunities for service, plan and calendar ministry
events, plan and calendar related training and coordinate
these with the Missions Ministry Calendar. They will prepare
a team budget request to be included in the Missions
Ministry of the MPBC budget and/or the Global Impact
Offering (GIO). The MOM will authorize disbursement of funds
and give joint oversight, along with the GIMT, to Missions
Ministry budget line items and funds.
Potential TL must successfully complete team leader
training, cross cultural training, prayer walking training,
chronological storying training, personal evangelism
training and have participated in an approved MPBC mission
trip before applying to lead a MPBC team. The MOM, one other
MPBC staff person and at least one other approved TL will
interview the potential TL before final approval is given.
Team members must successfully complete the application
and interview process, show evidence of a genuine salvation
experience, have particular skills or abilities needed on
the team and be an active MPBC member. Interviews will be
conducted by the MOM, the TL of the project being applied
for and at least one other TL. A waver may be granted for
any of the above requirements at the discretion of those
conducting the interview.
PRIORITIES AND VALUES
These are basic to us and are the foundation of our
ministry. Everything we do is built upon them.
- Prayer-All of us can pray and God chooses to work
when His people pray. We must continually pray for the
Lord of the Harvest to call out and send laborers into
the fields. We must continually pray for those already
working in the fields, for our ministry partners and for
those who have not yet responded to the gospel.
- Scripture-The Word of God is truth without any
mixture of error and draws the lost to faith in Jesus
Christ. It is “inspired by God and profitable for
teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in
righteousness”. (2 Timothy 3:16, NAS)
- Church-God has given the responsibility of reaching
the lost world to His church. We will start, build and
support churches. We must work to start Church Planting
Movements among unreached peoples.
- Evangelism-God has given each believer a testimony
and uniquely enabled them to share the Truth around the
world.
- Discipleship-As we grow in our likeness to Christ,
we are to lead others in becoming more Christ like and
impart to them a desire to complete the Great
Commission.
- Unique culture of every society-We will communicate
the Gospel in a way that is understood by the people
where they live.
- Ministry that has eternal significance-We will be
good stewards of the time, talents and resources that
God has entrusted to us.
